Reptile Vivariums
Reptile Vivarium Tanks.
There are several styles and sizes of vivariums for your reptile to choose from. They come in many sizes but the most popular sizes are, twenty four, thirty six, forty two and forty eight inch lengths. The colours are wood finishes that can be found as beech, oak, walnut and silver. They can sit onto any of the cabinets in your home.
The feature that a vivarium should have is an integrated ventilation system. This allows for the air to remain fresh at all times for your reptile or other exotic pets. Strong glass doors are a must when keeping a reptile for a pet.
If you will be putting together your own vivarium you will also want to make sure that you have some type of sealing agent for the joints. This sealant will form a watertight rubber seal that is tough enough to keep the vivarium intact. This seal is harmless to amphibians and reptiles. The sealant that is used should be fast tacking and have a fairly rapid cure time. It is necessary to have an excellent adhesion to the glass of the vivarium. There should only be one component so there is no mixing and you want it easy to apply with a minimum of tools.
When you choose one of the larger vivariums there will be more room for your reptile to feel at home in. If your reptile or amphibian needs to have a lot of foliage or tree trunks or vines to replicate their natural environment a larger vivarium is the natural choice. You have several choices for fake plants to put in the vivariums. For example you have tall plants with little places for a snake or lizard to sit upon. Other foliage can help hide the snake. There are “hides” which can be placed in the vivarium for the reptile to curl under. As mentioned previously the more room in the vivarium the more options like these you can have in your tank.
You will be able to add a tank decoration on the back of the vivarium as well as place vines, branches and artificial plants for the reptile to conceal itself in. Proper lighting for the reptile’s vivarium is essential and can be found to fit the twenty four, thirty six or forty eight inch vivariums.
Reptile Vivarium Information
A reptile vivarium is perfect for all types of reptiles or exotic pets. The many styles of the vivarium let you purchase the one that is right for a reptile that needs a longer vivarium for the space to move in or one that is taller because you have a climbing lizard. The vivariums come in a good selection of colours so that it will fit into your home or office décor. There are beech, oak and walnut vivariums as well as a silver colour. They are made of wood so that they are strong. Reptiles can enjoy a long life in a properly built vivarium.
Wooden vivariums being stronger than other materials can be stacked on cabinets better. They don’t usually crack, chip or shatter like an all glass vivarium might. The melamine faced chipboard panels of the vivarium are sealed around the edges with silicon to make it waterproof.
If your reptile is from a desert environment or just needs to have a warm habitat wood is a very good insulator. It will retain the heat better so your energy costs will be lower while providing a good environment for the reptile.
Because some reptiles need special lighting or heating elements wood vivariums are a good choice for this reason. They can be drilled or even cut to accommodate the alterations or improvements for your reptile.
Some of the features of a wood vivarium are the glass doors used on the front of the vivarium. They are made from toughened glass so that it has about five times the strength of a normal piece of glass. Safety glass is used so that should it break the pieces are small with no sharp edges to harm your reptile.
The vivarium has two ventilation areas, one on the top and the second on the bottom. This allows for the right amount of air to flow through the vivarium, keep humidity levels correct and provide the optimum in temperature. The holes that provide the ventilation are large enough to do their job, but small enough to keep any live food from escaping.
Choosing a vivarium that has about eighteen inches or more from front to back will allow room for the reptile to roam. It also gives you the opportunity to provide natural settings for your reptile with plants, branches, tree stumps, tunnels and water or food bowls.
The vivariums are shipped flat and are easy to assemble. Purchase a sealant so that the joints of the vivarium are protected. If you don’t have a place for your vivarium to set in your home or office you can purchase matching cabinets to set them on. They come with cabinet doors on the front which makes the perfect place to store all your reptile products. There is plenty of room for extra substrate, food, light bulbs and other necessities for your reptile.
