Expanded Clay Balls

Looking forExpanded Clay Balls? Look no further...

A good substrate to use as a base layer would be the expanded clay balls.  This substrate works particularly well with the coconut fibre substrate.  It will work with other substrates to provide an underground water table in a natural terrarium.

If you have a tropical reptile or amphibian species in the terrarium all you need to do is add water to the expanded clay balls substrate and it will become a natural aquifer.  It will help to create more humidity because of it.

The expanded clay ball substrate can be an excellent growing medium for live plants in the terrarium and used as a filtration system for a waterfall.

A stone clay background is available for the terrarium or aquarium if you like.  The stone clay design is very easy to install.  You can cut the stone clay background to fit the dimensions of the terrarium or aquarium.  It comes in a 600 x 550 mm size.

Another substrate that uses clay is the excavator clay substrate.  It is great for the terrarium or vivarium that houses a burrowing reptile.  This natural clay substrate gives the feeling of being at home in the reptile’s natural habitat.  You will get to enjoy watching your reptile’s digging behaviours.  If you want you can mould multi level terraces or burrows for your reptiles.

The excavator clay substrate is very stable so it won’t collapse during and after the completion of a tunnel or burrow.  There are no dyes or chemicals added to the excavator clay substrate.

The use of the stone clay background, expanded clay balls and excavator clay substrate will make a great habitat for your reptile.  It is safe to use and is an inexpensive way to set up the reptile’s terrarium or vivarium.

It is always a good idea to do some research to find out if the expanded clay balls or excavator clay substrate are the right ones for your pet reptile.  If you can’t find an answer in a care guide you should consult with a professional.  They will be able to inform you of the right choices in substrates.

Expanded clay balls can be cleaned in a white vinegar solution or hydrogen peroxide.  They are then rinsed thoroughly with water and are ready to be reused.  Check with the manufacturer’s directions on the proper method for cleansing the expanded clay balls.  There are a variety of sizes that the clay balls come in, from a small two litre package up to a fifty litre bag.

While this type of substrate works well in a wet environment it can be used anywhere that you want to have live plants growing in a reptile habitat.  Desert, forest and aquatic terrariums and vivariums can use the expanded clay balls for a growing medium.  It is safe and economical to use.  Part of the reason it is economical is because it can be cleaned of bacteria and reused.  Think about adding the expanded clay balls to your reptile’s habitat.
