Bark Chips bring an attractive natural woodland look to your reptile vivarium or tank.
Finding the right bark for your reptile terrarium or vivarium will help keep your pet reptile healthy and their environment looking good. Eco bark is made from pine trees and is a great medium for a reptile substrate. The specific nature of this type of bark makes it a wonderful choice for a terrarium.
Terrariums are often more humid than a vivarium and the pine bark will help absorb some of the humidity in the reptiles terrarium. The reptile waste will bind to the substrate medium. Because it has the ability to do this it keeps the odour covered from the waste covered.
The way that the pine bark chips are processed means that the chips will be uniform in nature with finer chips. This method also helps to keep dust and dirt to a minimum inside the terrarium.
Pine bark chips are naturally a little red in colouring so it will look natural in most environments. A benefit of using pine bark chips is that it is fairly resistant to rotting so it lasts longer than some other substrates. When the terrarium is properly ventilated it will also not get mouldy.
These bark chips are well suited for reptiles that need a more tropical environment. Snakes and tortoises can also benefit from the pine bark chip substrate. The bark chips come in two sizes: ten litres and twenty litres.
If you need to raise the humidity level in a terrarium you will want to use coconut bark chips. The one hundred percent natural bark chips are totally biodegradable. They do not have any fertilizers, chemicals or pesticides in them.
The coconut bark chips come in a compressed brick for easy handling. When you are ready to place some of the coconut bark chips in the reptiles terrarium all you need to do is place the brick in warm water. One brick will swell to approximately five litres of coconut bark chips.
The properties that this substrate offers are that it can absorb water as well as put more humidity into the terrarium. This type of substrate looks great for long periods of time. If you have a tropical lizard, snake or large tortoise the coconut bark chips will work well in their enclosure.
Bark chips made for fir trees is an all natural product and is also very good in creating a humid atmosphere in the reptile terrarium. It is a hygroscopic product that absorbs moisture but releases it again so that the terrarium has more humidity. This type of substrate also will conduct heat and then distribute it evenly.
Because this is a natural substrate your pet will dig or burrow in the fir bark chips. With its absorbing qualities the pet’s waste will be taken away from your pet reptile better.
The fir bark chips give your pet’s terrarium a tropical rainforest atmosphere. It can be reused easily as well. Remove the fir bark chips about every two or three months and soak in hot water. This process cleans the bark so that it can be used again; however, the fir bark chips should be completely replaced at least once a year.
