Thermostats & Hygrostats

We have a great range of Thermostats and Hygrostats from leading manufacturers.

Reptile products range from handling equipment to vivariums.  When you set up your vivarium you want to take care that you provide the right ventilation, humidity, and temperature.  The temperature is regulated by either a thermostat or hydrostat depending on the system you have.

Thermostats are going to regulate the temperature that the cage heater is on.  Reptiles are cold blooded creatures which means you have to provide the right temperature or you can affect the health of your pet reptile. Most reptiles require a warm side and a cool side in their home.  The reptile will sun itself in warmer temperatures.  Once it reaches an internal temperature that is comfortable it will then move to find a cooler place. You can always offer hides and other structures for the reptile to hide in for a cooler spot, but you also want to have a thermostat to make two different sides.

During the day it is important to regulate the temperature so that it is warm on one side.  You also want to be able to offer conditions similar to night.  In the wild the reptile is used to day and night.  To help them live easier in your vivarium you have to supply this same option.

The thermostat will work on the heater and fans you might have in the cage.  Most thermostats have up to 300 watts power.  Once the heater or fan is told it has reached the set temperature the thermostat will tell the equipment to shut off.  It can also turn the equipment back on when it is needed.

In the range of reptile thermostats and hydrostat products you have dual channel thermostats, a night eye system, as well as a simple thermostat.  It is up to you to choose the right product based on your pet reptile.  However, you will want to choose the one that makes your pet’s life easier.  Since they cannot turn the temperature up or down on their own you will need a device you can trust.  Most individuals work away from home and temperatures vary during the day.  By having a thermostat you can make sure the temperature fluctuations do not affect your pet reptile.

A dimming thermostat works well for controlling light bulbs.  Some heaters you can purchase will be lights.  You will have to have a controller that dims the lights or turns them on when a temperature change occurs.  The dimming thermostat provides up to 600 watts and 230 volts of power.  The dimming thermostat typically operates on 40 watts though.  When using the dimming thermostat it is recommended to use it with the incandescent light bulbs.  There are some products with dimmers which work on the Pulse lights.

Hydrostats are a little different than a thermostat.  The hydrostat works with humidifiers to time when a rainmaker or mister needs to be turned on during the day or night for your reptile.  They also work with the temperature control giving you a two channel control.
