We have a great range of reptile thermometers and reptile hygrometers.
Regulating your pet reptile’s enclosure is essential to keeping your pet healthy and happy. There are a number of products on the market to help regulate the internal temperature of your pet reptile’s vivarium or terrarium. Two products you might need include the thermometer and hydrometer.
A thermometer is going to tell you what the temperature is inside the vivarium. You have a range of products you can purchase when it comes to the thermometers. Lucky Reptile, Zoo Med, and Habistat are three manufacturers of thermometers you can purchase. Under the thermometer category there are different types. You have infrared thermometers, range thermometers, analogue, and dial thermometers.
Infrared thermometers can measure the temperature of an object without having direct contact. You just have to target the object you want to measure and press the button. The infrared thermometer is best for measuring different areas of the terrarium your reptile is inhabiting. Infrared thermometers work only on objects and not the actual air temperature. It is still a good piece of equipment to have to make sure the rocks are not getting too hot for your reptile to sit on.
Range thermometers work much differently than the infrared option. The range thermometer is made with liquid crystal. It can range from -21 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. The thermometer changes colour. Since proper temperature is important for digestion and metabolic function it is important to have something like the range thermometer in your vivarium.
Analogue thermometers are often used by professional breeders of reptiles. The numbers are easy to read, the thermometer has Velcro for the cage wall, and it offers a precise temperature of the terrarium. Most analogue thermometers range from -28 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius. The thermometer is only going to be able to read one zone of your vivarium. If you have a hot and cold side you will want to have at least two thermometers to ensure proper regulation of the temperatures is occurring.
The last option in the thermometer and hydrometer products is the dial thermometer. Reptile thermometer and hydrometers in the dial style are also analogue. The device will measure the room temperature as well as the humidity. The device needs to be installed inside the terrarium to read the temperature and humidity. The products often come with adhesive tape to hook to the window.
You can purchase a thermometer that is not a hydrometer. You can also purchase just a hydrometer. The hydrometer is the portion of the system that reads for the humidity. Since most pet reptiles need a certain level of humidity it is important that you have a device to read the changes that occur in the tank.
By using a hydrometer you can then set the hydrostat for the proper humidity. By regulating the humidity and knowing what the humidity is you can keep your pet happy and healthy in the tank. The dial thermometer and hydrometers are also fairly inexpensive devices to add to your terrarium.
