Our range of Switches, Timers & Radiometers.
Setting up your pet reptile vivarium requires several pieces of equipment. You need the terrarium cage, substrate, heaters, thermometers, rainmakers, and much more. Part of the equipment you might want for your vivarium is environmental controllers. Thermostats and hydrometers are two options for environmental controllers, but they are not the only ones. You also have radio meters, night/ day controllers, and switches.
Radio meters are a device that can test for the decay of UVB in a lamp over time. Your UVB lamp has a microwave signal that it sends off. Since the lamps are used for temperature regulation you want to make sure you replace the bulbs when they start to go faulty. Unless you have a hand held radio meter you are not going to be able to tell when it is time to replace your fluorescent UVB lamps.
Most of the environmental controllers we will be discussing in this section will have something to do with regulating temperature and humidity. The environment needs to reflect your pet reptile’s typical habitat to make them comfortable and happy. Unregulated temperatures can make your pet ill or at least have issues digesting their food.
Besides radio meters you have night and day controllers. The night and day controllers allow you to regulate the temperature, “sun and moon,” and humidity of the vivarium without being there. Sometimes you may spend several days away on vacation. The night and day controllers allow you to set the tank up, for when the sun is up or when the moon is up. If you keep your pet in a dark room they are never going to know when the sun is up. That is one purpose of the night and day controller. The controller will turn the light on or off depending on the setting. You can have moonless nights or go through the moon’s cycle each month to make sure your pet reptile is content.
The night and day environmental controllers are very simple to use. They are not the only environmental controllers you might want. There are also some switches and mechanical timers you can purchase. The switches work so that you can have the temperature controlled while you are at home or away. The switches will turn the heater or lamps on.
The mechanical timers are either analogue or digital. They will count down. As they reach the end of the countdown they will either turn on the light or turn it off. Typically the timers are going to work for turning the light off. For example if you are going out of the house until long after night fall you will want the light to turn off to regulate the vivarium for your reptile.
The last environmental controller that you might want is still a thermometer product. It is a thermo recorder. It will record how the temperature varied over the day, adjusting the clock for different intervals between when the heater is on and off. The data can be downloaded into your computer with the USB port.
