Reptile Humidity & Ventilation
Reptile Ventilation and Humidity Products.
Reptiles breathe air just like other pets you may have in your home. The difference is that dogs, cats, and birds tend to have more air available to them. Reptile vivariums and terrariums need to have ventilation and humidity products to help keep the air fresh. They are a lot like other caged animals in that respect. The more ventilation you offer your animal the less the cage will smell and the happier your pet reptile is going to be. After all, you do not want to suffocate the reptile.
Under reptile ventilation and humidity products you have several different products to purchase. For humidity and ventilation there are fans, controllers, humidity gauges, misters, and rainmakers. The style of product you buy is going to determine the amount of air and atmosphere you create. Obviously the type of pet reptile you have will help determine the type of home you need to make for them. Some reptiles require a more arid dry home than others.
Fans:
There are a couple of manufacturers of fans. Habistat and Lucky Reptile are two of the fan products on the market. Typically the manufacturers have a competitive price, so you just have to determine which fan is better for your reptile enclosure. The fan is going to have a plug for the wall, and attach the fan inside the vivarium. Most vans are low voltage to ensure they do not use a lot of power. The air will move in or out depending on the setting you have it on. It will take the stuffiness out of the tank and allow for a breeze to move through offering better ventilation.
Humidity Controllers and Gauges:
Humidity controllers are another style of reptile ventilation and humidity products you might want to have in your terrarium. The controllers typically have two settings for day and night. It acts like a real time clock so that the inside of the vivarium will change between day and night mode. During the night hours the humidity is often lower with a lower temperature. So you can set the vivarium to de- humidify or humidify the cage based on the natural environment of the reptile. You can also set when the humidifier turns on setting a specific value.
Humidity gauges are like the controllers. They will tell you how much humidity is in the terrarium and whether or not you need to change what the humidifier is doing. Many of the gauges work with the hygrometers to help you set the right temperatures and humidity. Under this section you will find thermometer gauges as well.
Reptile Misters and Rainmakers:
Rain forest reptiles require a wetter climate. To make this happen in a vivarium you need to have misters and rainmakers. These reptile ventilation and humidity products will make humidity in the terrarium as well as make the leaves of plants moist. The misters and rainmakers can spread throughout the tank or be local depending on what environment you want to set.
