Rock Heaters are very popylar choices in a reptile tank as they recreate a natural basking rock which is essential for a reptiles digestive health. See our full range below.
A reptile rock heater is a common feature in most lizard and snake vivariums. The heater provides a natural basking spot for a lizard or snake and can be used as well as or instead of or in addition to a heat lamp or basking lamp placed over a natural rock.
Most rock heaters will take two to three hours to heat up and once warm will maintain a steady temperature whilst plugs in. The average temperature generated by a heat rock in a reptile tank is between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the surface of the rock.
All lizards and snakes need heat to their body for their general health but they also need to heat their stomach area to assist digestion. Particularly so for carnivorous reptiles. If they do not get enough heat to their digestive area they are not able to digest the meat properly and this can cause a number of long term health problems for your reptile. A heat rock provides an opportunity for your reptile to do just what it would do in its natural environment which is to find a nice hot rock and spread its stomach across the rock to heat itself up.
