Feeding your reptile requires having the right food. With reptiles you have several choices in how to feed them. You can go with live food, frozen food, or dried food supplements. The food supplements contain parts of fish, small mammals, and plants to give your pet reptile the proper nutrients. While dried food can be good for some reptiles others need a more substantial meal. Boa constrictors, pythons, king snakes, monitor lizards, and other large reptiles you have as pets need small mammals.
You can feed live small mammals to your pet reptile; however, in a small cage you could risk hurting your pet due to the claws and teeth of the live mammal. For this reason, most pet owners tend to feed frozen meals to their reptiles. Frozen rats are a popular food item for reptiles. Frozen rats for reptiles are every bit as nutritious, according to experts, as live rats. You are just providing pre killed food.
For some larger reptiles pre killed food can be an issue. Their instincts tell them to eat only live food. For this reason you should be prepared to interest the snake. By holding the frozen rat by the tail and waving it around a little you can get the snake interested enough to eat the meal. You do need to have the frozen rats thawed to room temperature before attempting to feed them. As cold blooded animals it is not a good idea to feed your reptile cold food. It will lower their body temperature.
Here at reptile pet supplies You can purchase rats in packs of 2, 5, 10 and even 25. It is up to you whether you order just 2 rats or a hundred rats. You may want to order quite a few to stock up or just keep a few on hand. The choice will be determined by what other frozen food you will supply your pet reptile and of course how often they eat. You do not want to purchase more rats than your snake will eat in a certain time frame because they do have a use by date.
There are delivery costs for shipping. Since the rats are frozen food, shipping overnight is best. This will lesson any issues you may come upon with shipping. Longer shipping could have the entire order thawed if something goes wrong. Keep in mind that getting the right size frozen rats for reptiles is important.
