Reptile Frozen Food.

The life cycle of any organism can be quite interesting; learning what they feed on, how they reproduce, how long they live, and much more. Reptiles can be one of the most fascinating creatures to own. Many of the reptile species can live for up to 50 years like crocodiles. Of course some of these fascinating reptiles cannot be kept as pets. For those that can be pet reptiles, part of their care and life is providing the proper food. You have many food choices from dried foods, frozen foods, and live foods.

To give you a bit of information on reptile frozen food you should know what types of frozen food exist and the benefits of frozen food. Many reptiles are carnivores, meaning they are predatory animals feeding on small mammals and other live prey in their natural habitat. To make it easier on owners of pet reptiles, stores like ours will sell frozen food. This means the pet reptiles will feed on dead prey. Most pet reptiles do not mind this way of feeding. Typically the use of live prey in a cage is an exceptional circumstance when the owner cannot get their pet to eat the other food offered.

Frozen food for reptiles also helps you keep the cage cleaner. It is easier to remove any bits of the dead mouse or other food and they can be purchased in bulk. Reptile frozen food is most often rats, mice, and chicks. However, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and quail can be on the menu. The frozen food is pre-packaged often in separate bags so you can thaw just one mouse or rat. The food is then frozen with a specific date of use on it. They are shipped to you in a dry ice atmosphere to ensure the frozen animals will not be thawed during transport. For this purpose transport is overnight delivery to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Once you have the frozen food you can store it in a freezer until you are ready to feed your pet reptile. You will have to thaw the mouse or frozen food to room temperature before feeding your pet. Never use a microwave to thaw the food. This can harm the food and make it unhealthy for your reptile.

When choosing frozen food for your pet reptiles over other options speaking with a vet is important. Your vet should tell you what the reptile normally eats, how much, and what size they will need. Reptile frozen food comes in varying sizes for the types of reptiles. For example you have pinkies in the mouse category which are smaller. There are also a range of sizes for guinea pigs. Typically this means the animal is frozen when young when they are small in size.

Your reptile will eat the frozen food whole in most cases. This is why it is important to get the right weight for your reptile. You do not want to block their digestive system. There are alternatives to frozen food such as dried foods, but frozen tends to be healthier.
